Lets talk about RuPay NCMC Debit/Prepaid Card/ RuPay Metro Card/ RuPay Transit Card and share your experience and help others:

Hi, NPCI now allow Banks, Metros, Buses to accept RuPay NCMC debit and NCMC Prepaid cards.

Many people are asking me how to activate RuPay NCMC debit card ? How to load money ? How to use etc.

What is RuPay NCMC Card ?

National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) is Transit Card/ Metro Card is India. Single Card use on any Metros, Buses, Toll, Parking, Railway, Para Transit & Retail shopping etc.

You will get offline Wallet based contactless Payments option. Load Money on your RuPay NCMC Offline Wallet and use any Metro AFC gates in India. Same like any Metro Cards in India. Some Indian buses are also start accepting RuPay NCMC cards.

How to activate RuPay NCMC Card ?

You RuPay NCMC Card activate through Metro counter and Metro staff will help you to activate your NCMC card feature.

How to load money on my RuPay NCMC Card Wallet ?

You can load money from Metro counters or Online from your bank Internet banking or Mobile banking app.

How to Use ?

Just Tab on entry AFC gate and exist time tab on exist AFC gate.

What is the limit for my offline RuPay NCMC wallet transaction ?

Well, limit is decided by the banks, i shared here Bank of Baroda RuPay NCMC debit card offline wallet transaction limit -

Note - The limit may change in the future.

  • Maximum per transaction limit for money add transaction - Rs. 500.
  • Maximum daily limit for money add transaction - Rs. 2000.
  • No. of money add transactions allowed per day - 4.
  • Maximum balance in card (stored value) at any point - Rs. 2000.
  • Max per transaction limit for card for offline purchase - Rs. 200 (retail payments) & Rs. 2,000 (transit payments).
  • Maximum daily limit for card for no. of offline purchase transactions - 20.

Delhi Metro -

Here Delhi Metro Offer 10% off on RuPay NCMC Card payment during peak hours and 20% off on non-peak hours.

Last time i heard Delhi Metro airport expressline accept RuPay NCMC Cards but now I see it is expanding to other Delhi Metro stations as well.

Note - Already few users here used RuPay NCMC cards on Delhi Metro. They activated RuPay NCMC Debit Cards from Delhi Metro counter.

Bengaluru Metro -

Here one twitter user Naveenkumar B S shared on twitter -

Bengaluru Metro now supports all banks NCMC RuPay Debit cards, so there is no need to buy a new card to travel. Today I activated my SBI NCMC debit card service creation at the metro counter and loaded 200 Rs.

I travel by metro regularly in Bangalore, and today I checked at the Banashankari customer service counter if there was any possibility to link my existing SBI Rupay NCMC debit card. The person checked, created the service and loaded the amount.

Paytm wallet transit card was delivered on 7 August 23 in Bengaluru, and I have reloaded 100 Rs in AVM.

Finally the MMRDA Mumbai Metro staff got the NCMC activated!!
Here’s my BOB RuPay Select Debit Card being used!!

These are just a few examples and will give you an idea of how to use your RuPay NCMC Metro Card.

Mumbai BEST buses also accept RuPay NCMC Cards and they also issue their own Chalo BEST NCMC Card by yes bank but you can also use other RuPay NCMC Cards as well.

Hmm. I think that'll need your phone to be NCMC "write" enabled I guess.

I guess we basically have an "online card" and an "offline card" going parallely -- until we go to a "recharge machine" (or a counter at a Metro station) and sync them up. The access gateway at Metros is offline. Recharging using bank account etc. is online.

CMRL app actually used to ask your phone to have "card read" power to be able to find the balance online -- even now it tells me my phone doesn't have that sensor. However, nowadays, if I attempt to recharge it, it displays the current balance from the "online" account. But actual loading of balance still needs going to machine or to counter.

I guess the Fastag thingy syncs up recharges immediately. Don't know why that can't be done with these cards too...

I don't think "instant offline loading" tech for NCMC cards is there yet.
You could load a huge amount (I mean 1-2k) every 3-4 weeks.
Also never buy RBL NCMC card. Doesn't work 60% of the time. Needs hard press or other exercises at the entry gate. (In Bengaluru Namma Metro).
Paytm NCMC Card is the smoothest and fastest.

All RBL NCMC card or only your card ? Replace your card, there may be some fault in your RBL NCMC card.

Looks like banks are now issuing NCMC enables cards on Visa network also. My cousin recently got new personalised Union Bank Visa debit card. To my surprise, NCMC wallet account was activated and the same Visa debit card is linked to the wallet account also.

Visa/mastercard have their own NCMC feature but very limited acceptance.

By the way NCMC is interoperable. Any card network can join India's NCMC system.

I've got my bank's VISA Debit Card with NFC symbol on it, can I use the card as National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for Tap & Travel at Metro Stations or does this facility apply only on Rupay Debit Card, please clarify?

Looks like Visa went live with NCMC in May 2019 itself. https://www.visa.co.in/about-visa/n...y-card-for-multimodal-transport-in-india.html
So ideally majority of Visa cards issued after May 2019 should have NCMC. I think only Union Bank has enabled it as of now. Govt is also asking banks to ensure that all new cards and reissue of cards have the NCMC as a default option. As you said gradually Visa and MasterCard should put it to use. Not using metro as of now. So can't confirm anytime soon. Anyone with Union Bank Visa debit card, please confirm if you are able to create service and use in any metro. Thanks.

Got the Paytm NCMC card just last week. And this week RBI hit them with a ban hammer! 🥲

Ya, i heard this news but after that no official announcement. Same year, mastercard also announced NCMC cards.

PSU banks currently told only RuPay cards are supported NCMC.

All SBI RuPay debit cards are NCMC.

Classic variant free issuance or some branches charge Rs125+GST.

Platinum charges - Rs300+GST/Rs250+GST.

Other premium cards -
