So here’s the deal - I switched from Jio to Airtel, hoping I could save some money while still getting decent service with Axis Airtel Cc. I’ve been recharging my two numbers on alternate months for a while, and it was working fine in Jio - one number is for work, & the other is more for personal use. My mom’s number doesn’t get recharged often since she’s mostly at home using Wi-Fi, and my dad’s is always recharged since he relies on it for work.
I thought switching to Airtel would give me similar service, but man, was I wrong. As soon as my pack expired, within a day or so, incoming calls and SMS stopped. This is a complete shock to me, especially after using Jio for so many years, where incoming services were always active, even if there wasn't any active recharge pack. It’s so frustrating, especially since now I can’t even recharge my number because I’m not receiving OTPs!!!
I’m forced to go to a physical shop, pay in cash, and deal with that hassle. No just kidding!! Did using UPI, but no cashbacks 😞 which makes matters worse, I can’t even get the cashback from my Airtel-Axis Bank credit card since I can’t recharge online anymore without OTP, so the whole reason I moved to Airtel in the first place feels like a waste.
I’m seriously considering porting all my numbers back to Jio. Even though it costs a little more than Airtel (after 25% cashback), Jio just worked, no service interruptions, no issues with incoming calls, no problems with OTPs. Jio’s service quality was solid, & I never had to worry about these things.
So, my question Is anyone else experiencing the same issue with Airtel? When I switched to Airtel, the first recharge (FRC) was free (₹299), which was a good incentive, but now I’m worried about porting back to Jio. Will they offer something similar, or is the first recharge has to be done by me, unlike Airtel?
If anyone has details about the minimum FRC for Jio when porting, please share. I’m especially interested in knowing the exact recharge I should expect because, honestly, I don’t want to deal with agents or store people giving me false info just to get a commission. If you have any office links from Jio, that would be amazing!
Would really appreciate any insights before I make the final decision. Thanks in advance!
Also Monopoly/Duopoly is not good for customers like us. I thought Jio was evil, until I met Airtel 🥲
Please provide guidance on this matter. Additionally, could someone advise me on the best method to recharge Jio numbers for maximum cashback, considering my credit card portfolio listed below?

EDIT: Also this was a Misselling to me, because as soon as I generated the UPC code before porting, the Jio Retention team called and warned me of Airtel's tactic of discontinuation of incoming services as soon as the active pack expires. The person responsible for Airtel SIM delivery in my pincode said that those are all retention tactics and no incoming service is discontinued. I asked the same question to him all the 4 times i called him (4 Seperate times ij a short period of a month, Feb-Mar 25') and every time he said that .....don't worry- incoming service wouldn't be deactivated. Had i known the reality I'd have never ported from Jio. Now when i complained about this to my Airtel circle for this fraudulent Misselling, they called me up and said that the guy doesn't work there anymore and he has moved to some other company. Classic move 😀
