Is “811” Number Safe to Use in a Website Domain Name?

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to launch a website and considering a domain name that ends with “811”. I know that Kotak Mahindra Bank in India has a product called Kotak 811, so I’m wondering — is there any legal risk in using a domain name with “811” in it?

From what I understand, “811” is just a number and likely not trademarked on its own. But since it’s part of a known product name, I want to be sure I’m not stepping into any trademark issues.

Has anyone here dealt with similar cases or have insight on whether using a number like this can cause trouble — especially in the context of Indian trademarks?

Appreciate your thoughts!

If it's not related to banking or doesn't look similar to Kotak website, under ICANN dispute resolution shouldn't be conflicting (isn't confusingly similar)

That said, it depends on if you're in India or registering an .in domain, or not

If not, very less chances of it being pursued

If yes, then it depends on your luck mainly - if your website is not a product or does not go viral, very less chances of it ever being noticed. If it is noticed and pursued, you would most likely lose the domain, and/or get entangled in a few legal cases (outcome may vary, depending on connections, probably need senior MP level contacts here)

Recently m&m announced that they are launching a new car under the name which contains 6E
This
6E usually associated with indigo so indigo filed a suit on m&m
My request is kindly go through those legal notes. Court has overthrown indigo case as m&m and indigo are doing different business and hence no confusion regarding 6E

Mahindra dropped the E from 6E, and is challenging the case in court: https://www.business-standard.com/i...e-amid-tussle-with-indigo-124120900609_1.html

Also keep in mind that a few crores on legal disputes/bribes is essentially a rounding error for both Tata and Mahindra (plus, free marketing)
