Independence Day avios offer

Hi all,

I received an email from Qatar about an Independence Day offer for buying avios. "Celebrate Independence Day with this exclusive offer. For four days only, get 50% off when buying or gifting Avios by 15 August 2023.” I am getting 72000 avios for $1008. Do you guys think I should go for it? Thanks.

I have a tentative plan for UK for next April/May summer vacations. Not sure avios is the best choice. 2 adults and 2 kids (5,12).

It always comes back to the basics.

Which cards do you have ?
What’s your monthly spends?
Any airline status ?

FOMO is obviously how these discounts work.
Plus next April/May is quite further out.

If you are in the points and miles accumulation mode, there’s enough time to gather and transfer to Qatar Avios itself or other, better transfer partners (United/Turkish/Flying Blue etc) with lesser taxes.

QR and BA taxes can really pile on, especially for a family, even though they border on alluringly cheap.

I’d suggest doing some research before biting the bullet.

then do the revenue booking vs points booking cost analysis and see which would be cheaper for you and go for it
