How to get SBI Cashback Card Joining Fee back?

ZoomZumba420

TF Select
So, I applied SBI Cashback Card via yono and instantly got the card with a decent limit of 157000/- this January, 2025.

Now, on first month statement they charged me 999/- + GST as annual fee. I am sure it should be called joining fee rather than annual fee. But it shows as annual fee in my statement.

But my question is that if I can get this joining fee reversed. I have already called the customer care and she siad there was not any fee waiver offer available for me. No option for the same is available in the app either. I have already emailed to customer service head, nodal officer and principal nodal officer to appeal for my joining fee reversal.

At last, I paid all the bill and lodged a card closure request. I will get a call in evening. But I don't have any hope though.

Meanwhile, can you guys give me some idea on the same?

Keep us updated
Here's update, rather twist in the story.

I received a call from retention team on Monday evening. They said they are raising a request of annual fee credit but it is subject to approval.

I didn't add this update because I thought it will probably be rejected.

But today I noticed something different in my utilised limit and I checked unbilled transactions. And voila!

THEY HAVD REFUNDED MY JOINING FEES!

@Abhisek @BVC

So, it's finally a success story!

Congratulations. Double bonanza for you.

I have an SBI Cashback card, that I applied to avail online offers, without knowing this card is excluded. In last 1.5 yrs, there have been several discussion with them for upgrading / downgrading / closure of cards. In one of the retention call the executive said I could get the charges waived by calling within 2-3 months of charges being posted. But obviously that didn't happen until I raised the closure request again.

However, I really don't want this card anymore, more so as I have now got simplyclick card for online offers, I wanted to close the cards 1 month after the charges were reversed.

But, when I raised the request, the executive pointed out the "waiver" so many times, as if warning me that the waiver could be revoked. I though I could keep the card for few more months (annual fee will be due in June). But I still want to close the card sooner than later so that I don't miss out when it's due.

So I am asking from someone who has gone through the process, that if I proceed with the card closure now itself, can they post the annual charges again ?

[PS: my thread was merged into this, not exactly the same query as charge reversal though, if someone can undo merge, or answer here]

U got your annual fee and joining fee reversed??

Make sure you think of this side as well:

"They will happily accept your card closure request and approve it without asking anything else."

Forget the charges, now you lost your card forever.
They would never close your card without calling. I confirmed it from the customer support executive.

They will need to take your confirmation via call before proceeding to close the card.

And, almost always they will beg you to keep your card. I haven't heard otherwise.

Raising closure request through app itself is confirmation, sometimes its double confirmation if that agent calls you. Otherwise, you're done.

Lucky that you never faced this issue but always give some possibility for that from now onwards. Many of them lost the card and have to equest for reactivate, it happens.

So i have to clear my dues and request for card closure? Then i have to ask the calling person to reverse the charges right?
Yes u can bro. Even I got my charges reversed. Make card closure request via app then make some dues in card immediately. Then wait for the call. The retention team may reject the request, but if you escalate to head, they will have the authority to reverse. Just negotiate with them "that u won't get any kind of single rupee benefits for the joining fee charged. For all bank and for sbi cards except cashback card we will get joining fee benefits" like that

You seems new to the SBI, you probably haven't read the stories. Search on forum, you will find many.
