How to avoid charges in Bank of India?

ZoomZumba420

TF Select
I have a Bank of India savings account. It's pretty much my primary account.

Currently I incur two charges in my account -
1. Debit card AMC of 295/- (incl. gst)
2. SMS charges of 17.7/- per quarter.

Any idea on how to avoid these?

As of the debit card, I don't need it (as I already have an SBI debit card) except for the occasional authorization issues in internet banking app. And sometimes for UPI registration (BOI still doesn't support Aadhaar based UPI registration, I guess). And, I think that there isn't any virtual only debit card for Bank of India accounts.

And secondly, I couldn't find any option to stop SMS alerts in Bank of India app.

Any help or comment is appreciated.

Visit branch, and submit written application for closing both. You have to submit your debit card at the branch along with the written application.

But what about the other functions of debit card i.e. UPI registration and Internet Banking authorization. Incase I forget password or anything like that, I will need a debit card.

Simply ask them to issue RuPay Platinum Card, and close your current card. (Make sure they closes the card.) Charges will be the same, but you can use RuPay Card on Amazon Friday offer to recover 100 Rs. Discount. In 4-5 bills your all the charges covered.

You have to maintain atleast 50k MAB in your savings account to avoid AMC on Rupay NCMC debit card in bank of india. (kindly see link given below).

Also please give a written request in your branch to stop non-mandatory sms alerts in your savings account.

I asked to bank officials and also customer service executive. They didn't say anything about Rupay NCMC being fee waived on 50K MAB.

They just keep saying they don't have any free debit card.

Also also, the same branch service manager said that SMS charges can not be stopped till I have an atm card. I will have to close my atm card and then I may be able to stop sms charges.

Just close the BOI account and switch to better Banking like Kotak811, BOB Lite or Roar Bank

Roar Bank
Funny you are saying this to consider as an option
Refer to the thread
Roarbank thread mention it as road bank
Roar app did not enabled for UPI payment yet. So until they implement it, you shouldn't enter, and Roar bank is a mixture of a credit and savings account.

If you use it first, it takes the balance from the credit card (if possible), and the money in the bank account will be used to settle the amount even before the statement period. This makes no sense to use it as a savings account when it completely settle credit card expenses primarily before there is any statement.

Instead of the Roar app, try Slice Payment Bank (not as a primary account).

I have kotak 811, slice, jio and bob lite currently for upi in my primary number.

I use the boi and sbi as my main account linked to a different number.
Any specific reason for using BOI given that there service is worse only next to SBI?
Why not use BOB Lite as main account by changing mobile number if you already have it?
If you don't want to change mobile number then open a new account with Roar bank.
