Digital Nomad: Considering UAE Freelance Visa While Working from Southeast Asia — Need Advice

Hi Everyone,

I’m a digital nomad currently working remotely for a European company. Previously, I was based in Singapore and Dubai, and now I’ve transitioned into a fully remote role.

I’m exploring the feasibility of a setup to maintain my NRI status and fulfill upcoming RE-KYC requirements for my Indian bank accounts. Here's my situation:

  • I already hold an NRE account and receive my salary directly into it.
  • Since I live outside India for over 200 days a year, I maintain NRI status.
  • To meet RE-KYC and address proof requirements, I’m considering obtaining a UAE freelance visa along with an Emirates ID.
  • I plan to visit the UAE twice a year to keep my residency status active.
  • I would then use the UAE visa and Emirates ID/bank statements as proof of residency for Indian banks, while continuing to enjoy 0% tax benefits in India as an NRI.

Does this approach sound solid, or is there anything I might be overlooking?

Thanks in advance for your input!
