Closure of FYF cards

I am currently offered HDFC Infinity card with FYF. If I opt for the card and am unable to reach the annual fee waiver target , I am planning to close the card before annual fee is charged.

If I do this, will it affect my credit score.?

No it does not impact in any way, unless you miss payments ofc

If I were offered FYF, then it is better to try and use the card to see whether the card would be compatible for me. Right?

Yes, correct. You can enjoy all the benefits and see for youself if the card suits your lifestyle and make a decision on continuing it or not.
