The SBI cashback card completed 1 year last month. I had used it considerably more than 2lakh over the past year which makes me eligible for the spend-based waiver for the annual fee. As a regular practice I was checking the spends in the statement generated on May, where I found that SBI has silently charged me with the annual fee. I checked my email and sms messages, but I couldn’t find any notification for this charge. I raised a complaint with the customer care who raised an SR and the fee was ultimately reversed. However, it seems that I will need to keep checking for such charges every year.
I feel a customer shouldn’t be responsible to raise such requests. Instead the system should take care of this automatically. This can also be termed as an unethical way to levy the fee on customers who are either not aware, or too busy to check.
Update: As per the replies, the annual fee is automatically reversed after few days.
