Aren't fuel spends excluded from rewards on MRCC?
Here you get 1,000 Bonus Membership Rewards Points for simply using your card 4 times on transactions of Rs. 1,500 or above in a calendar month. Here spends on fuel is also counted. So you are not getting rewards on fuel spends but getting bonus rewards according to above criteria.

No renewal benefits on BPCL Octane.
Axis IOCL+ Magnus gives 8% valueback but the cap is 5000 Rs per month. For someone who has around 10K fuel spends per month BPCL Octane will be a better choice.

Use HDFC Tata rupay card to buy HP Pay voucher and get more value than this cards. 500per month.

I have the SCB Super Value Titanium and I like the no-nonsense structure of the card. Don't have to go looking for particular provider, no difficulty of redeeming points for fuel as it is a cashback card. Can accumulate cashback and redeem it together as well. The upper limit of cashback is rather too low, and the reward rate of the card otherwise is pretty poor. But a better all-round option in my book. The SC Smart and the Titanium are the only worthwhile cards from SCB India as of now.
Is fee waiver only works with file spend or all spend in a year thinking to get bob cc

Waver for SCB Super Value Titanium can be achieved through an overall spend of 90000. Fuel spends with cashback can only take to 48000 in a year, need to spend an additional 42000 to get the fees waved. If you have utility bills above 750, the card would give 5 percent cashback up to hundred. Can be another way to add some decent return spends...

Amex Platinum Charge is also a good option. Here you earn 5 reward points/100 Rupees.
Combination of Amex Platinum Travel & Amex MRCC would be better than Platinum Charge card even for higher fuel spends.

Doesn't SC Platinum rewards card offer 5 reward points on every 150₹ spent on fuel? Isn't it a better option with low fees?
Intresting.. Didnt notice. But redemption fee is 99+gst which ruins it all.

Depends if it waves off the charges?
What is 5x in terms of reward rate?

Can you share example

Few Corrections needed to the above table IMO:

- The Smart Transaction Range of Gold Charge and MRCC needs to be updated as 1000/5000 and 1500/5000.
- Fee Waiver for Amex MRCC is 150K.
- Gold Charge officially doesn't have a Fee Waiver. Needs a disclaimer
- Ideal for Monthly spends needs updation in both Gold Charge and MRCC - 6,000 and 20,000 Respectively

Additionally, I would put Platinum Travel also in the list for High-Spenders on Fuel.

SCB India has the worst, the absolute worst reward redemption catalog in the planet! You are rather unlikely to derive much value from there. Besides, the 5 points doesn't even give 1 percent value at the end of the day.
The Smart card or the Titanium card are the only worthwhile cards from SCB India, even the ultimate, that took a recent devaluation hit, has otherwise lost value because of the useless reward catalog.

Fuel Surcharge Waiver Condition

There is a peculiar condition attached to fuel surcharges and their waiver every time you fill your vehicle. For every swipe equal to or less than ₹1000 a 1% surcharge is applicable subject to a minimum value of ₹10 per transaction but reversal is done only for the actual amount of fuel that you have purchased. So this isn’t a big deal for four-wheelers but for two-wheelers where the tank full value is usually below that number, it’s a bit disadvantageous. So keep this in mind while you are fuelling next time. I will also be recommending cards based on this in the recommendation section

Fuel Loyalty Programs

Enroll in Fuel Loyalty Programs in India offered by various Oil Manufacturing Companies to earn rewards in addition to the above credit card rewards. It's another unique article on TechnoFino that you would not be able to find anywhere. For more such quality content subscribe to our mailer list and be the first one to know about it.

  • *Reward rate is exclusive of fuel surcharge waiver.
  • ^We are giving a smart range for all the cards so that a user gets the dual benefits of a complete fuel surcharge waiver and reward points.
  • For cards like SBI BPCL co-branded cards, BOB HPCL Energie, ICICI Supersaver, and Uni Carbon, we can avoid fuel surcharges even for transactions less than ₹1000 by using wallets of the various loyalty programs.

TechnoFino Recommends

If you are still confused about which one is the best for you. We will try to help you out but we can only broadly recommend some credit cards as the usage of every person is unique for fuel spending.

If you are holding an AMEX credit card then you purchase fuel using AMEX MRCC/ AMEX Gold Charge get benefits up to 5%-8% by redeeming them for 24K gold collection.

If you commute on a two-wheeler then mostly for a tank full the amount ₹400-₹500 and monthly spends are usually between ₹2000-₹3000 for an average user. So for such users, I highly recommend BOB HPCL Energie or Kotak IndianOil. The fee waiver condition on this card will also be easy to meet if used only for fuel.

For car owners with a very low consumption limited to ₹3000 a month again BOB HPCL Energie or Kotak IndianOil makes a lot of sense due to its low annual fee waiver condition.

For consumers in the range of ₹3K- ₹6K a month I would again recommend BOB HPCL Energie. Also, Standard Chartered Super Value Titanium can be considered in this range which will give you the option to fuel at any OMC.

If your consumption is nearly ₹10K a month then SBI Octane is a no-brainer for you. And if you are crossing even that limit then you can club the spending with the recommendations given above with the SBI Octane Credit Card. With SBI’s generous sales offer and 2.5% reward rate on grocery and dining, you will easily cross the fee waiver threshold.

Can't be extrapolated to everyone else as experience is very much subjective. There are too many variables involved.

Most of the people would agree that they face too much troubles with these Fuel Cards at Petrol Pumps especially in Tier 2 & 3 cities.
What is the percentage surcharge being imposed by SBI BPCL credit cards on fuel spends from Bharat Petroleum fuel stations? Is it beneficial to pay from SBI cards if we include all taxes and GST or its better to pay in cash?

Magnus burgundy in general provides upto 8%(depends how you redeem) but in case you exceeded the monthly threshold of 1.5 lakh then you get around upto 23% return.
It just that you need to make sure that the transaction amount is higher than 4200 . You don't get any fuel surcharge waiver in this case.
