I am currently unemployed and so I don’t have a monthly income. I have two paid Axis cards (500 each plus taxes) with a shared limit of just 15k. I feel like the fees are unjustified for just 4.5k (30% utilisation ratio) worth of credit when my monthly expenses is often around and over 20k. I have already tried and failed to get Axis to increase my limit by contacting them through email and phone. It’s been nearly a year since the newer one was issued and I have not yet got a limit enhancement offer like others (many have received after only 6 months) even though I have other bank cards with decent limits, CIBIL of 776, over 3 years of credit card history and never failed to pay bills on time. So I was wondering if it would be possible for the local Axis branch employees to provide any kind of help for limit enhancement on my cards if I visited the branch and explained my situation to them. I would submit an application too if it would be required. Do you think they’d be able to offer any kind of help with this?

I was given 21k limit on Flipkart Axis. I shop online about 2.5 L each year from Flipkart alone. Last year I clocked 2.75 L on Flipkart. Midway after 6 months they had given LE to 41k. It all depends on spending. You have to go 100% one or two times and pay the bill (not official though)Use it everywhere even for small transactions. Moreover they now offered me Personal loan of 3.0 L on credit card alone at attractive interest rate. Keep spamming the Increase credit limit option just before 6 months. I got it around 8 months. There is no sure way unless you give income proof. Yesterday I got IndusInd Legend LTF with 50k pre-approved without any verification or documents through Paisabazaar. My HDFC Tata Neu Plus is still stuck at 13k ( I never spent on it though apart from the Tata apps)

My friend got 15 k limit in Flipkart .. hardly used on Flipkart

Then he got iocl via customer care used 90% for 3-4 months.

Out of no where 5 lakh loan appeared in pre approved in axis without bank account..

Bank algorithm are hard to be predicted

Just a general query, why people with no job/business/freelance ( not talking about final yr/intern students ) think they deserve high credit limit without any income?

This entitlement is mind boggling.

  • Probably because they feel banks should trust them since they pay their card dues always on time
  • Also, what is considered as "high" credit limit is relative

Because he spends over 20k per month being a student, and got a limit of 15k ( I hope rent is not included ) 🤷‍♂️

May be, times has changed... I was given a cc with first job (salary a/c hdfc) with limit of 80-90k that went to 1.3L after a year . I surrendered mine at around 1.5 year, as I never felt need for one. Again started using CC after corona as DC offers dried out in every bank.

That's my exact question.

Even though someone pays their due in time, Why banks should trust them to offer higher credit limit without any proof of stable income ? Banks giving them whatever limit on basis of cibil is itself big thing as its unsecured amount.

As per my experience in TF Community, I assume majority of such people want 1 L or more limit in their card without any proof of stable income or job ( I mentioned criteria in previous post ) .

Because if you can beat the algorithm in its own game
You own the game

Some with salary won't get Shappiro
But someone with alumni offer can get it lTf if they know

Same goes for loan and taxes

One of the reason being -
Most of the shop owners and small business vendors file 'nil' itr (regardless of income)
Hence they cant give itr, as CC application criteria is over 3.5L income in most banks nowadays, except PSU and icici

While students are influenced by Chhaprindams

Do an FD of 50-1L, keep it till you get next pre-approved offer / new card application.
I think this much you can maintain as your monthly expense itself is over 20k.

Bank algorithm often gives 50% - 125% of FD value as limit if credit history is short

nobody thinks they "deserve" high credit limit unless they're someone with high income. just because you "want" something doesn't mean you think you "deserve" it. it's more like "if you can do something to have it, why not have it?" So I don't know how this is about entitlement.

if someone is unemployed, then apart from getting CL purely on basis of cibil, why bank will give manual LE without stable income proof ?

They may get auto LE time to time, depending on banks algorithms but should not expect manual LE without providing proof of income. Because it's unsecured loan without any income proof. That's my point of view.

Ultimately, it's upto customer & respective bank to decide.

your argument is correct, sir. but does that make wanting a higher credit limit about feeling entitled? just because you want more of something doesn't make you entitled.

My comment was not specific to anyone, it was my general observation after joining this forum & observing many threads/posts.

Some may genuinely want more of something & keep trying as you said, but whatever I have observed majority of such customers feel they are entitled for higher limit as they are paying dues in time & spending high/decent. But don't have job or stable source of income.

As I said this is my point of view, you have your own view on this. That's why we are in this forum, to discuss & know each other views/suggestions. Everyone can't have same opinion.
