As I was looking at my SBI Card statement, I tried to analyse few of my transactions due to points mismatch. Some of the observations:
Even though there will always be some inconsistency amongst card networks, as credit card users, we will be the one losing out on reward points due to incorrect MCC codes.
Small inconsistencies are understandable, but assigning MCC code to a merchant which has no relation to the code is baffling.
- Paytm Wallet Loads were classified as Utilities and Travel
- One of my spends at Netmeds came under Stationary
- One of spends at Apparel on Amazon were tagged as Grocery
- A spend at a cookie store assigned to apparel
- Purchase of mouse from Flipkart also assigned to apparel
- Spends at McDonald's tagged under Supermarket
- Some transactions made at same shop being classified under Grocery while some under Restaurant and the remaining under Supermarket
