Need suggestions to use Amex MR points with HDFC Mariott Bonvoy CC

TF Premier
I will be closing the Plat Travel CC in a couple of months. Have around 200k MR points that I will be transferring to Mariott Bonvoy before card closure.

Question: If I take the HDFC Mariott Bonvoy CC, will I get the Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite Status benefits when I book stays using AMEX MR points?

Upgrades at Silver status are rare. Even if you do get an upgrade, you'll mostly be upgraded to a better view, like from city view to sea view, or a higher floor.

Lifetime Silver Elite requirement is 250 nights + 5 years as Silver Elite. Once you reach this lifetime status, your points don't have any expiration date and your account will never be downgraded below Silver for life. This is what most frequent travelers do; get Lifetime Platinum Elite status in 10 years and then move to another loyalty program.
250 nights in Marriott will be extremely difficult because I find so much better value in Accor
How do you find Marriott to be better value than Accor?

I'm okay spending a bit more when it comes to luxury, service, and overall experience. Marriott tends to deliver those consistently.

Over 70% of Accor properties are ibis, Novotel, and Mercure, which are mid scale and economy hotels. They always have very few options in premium and luxury category. Plus its earning rate is quite low, which doesn't work out well when you're spending cash.

only 10yrs as a platinum member gets you lifetime platinum or there are some other things as well?
You need 600 nights + 10 years as Platinum Elite.

You can get 100 nights from HDFC Card over 10 years, and 50 nights in total from annual choice benefit that you get upon reaching Platinum Elite every year. So you need to stay for like 450 nights, that is 45 nights a year. This can be reduced further if you consider bonus elite nights.

I am on Platinum elite till Nov. Don't know how to utilize it best. Any pointers. The room upgrade and all is not clear to me. Is it just for a day or for the entire booking period?- How can I avail this? any other benefits?

You will be Plat Elite till end Feb.

Check Plat benefits on the bonvoy app.

A quick search in the forum/google with the right keywords will answer your Qs.

Platinum Elite benefits include welcome gift, complimentary room upgrade for your entire stay, complimentary breakfast, complimentary lounge access, 50% bonus points, early check-in based on availability, guaranteed 4 pm late checkout, and an annual choice benefit once you cross 50 elite nights.

Sorry. But can you explain this with an example. Will I get all the benefits together or one of them once. Do I need to inform them while booking? Do I need to book it directly from their app or website?

I thought I will do this, I got to LTP 2 years back, but now I am so used to Marriott and the fact that Marriott has really solid coverage everywhere, I am kinda still stuck with them.

The fact that Hyatt has very few properties is another big reason I am continuing to be loyal to Marriott.

Marriott does have amazing network but they're still lacking in some countries, like Seychelles, New Zealand. I was thinking switching to Hilton once I'm Lifetime Platinum with Marriott. Marriott has over 9,000 hotels and Hilton has over 8,000 hotels. This will basically increase my options to almost double.

But Indian credit cards don’t have reward transfer to Hilton right

Yes, there are a few countries where Marriott may not be very prominent, but there are a few reasons I am not chasing Hiton Diamond:
  • Hilton needs butt in bed nights for lifetime Diamond
  • Hilton has so many elites (coz of easy gold with 90$ credit cards)
  • Although Amex points transfer to Hilton at similar (not same) ratio as Marriott, Hilton points are lot less valuable
Some good stuff about hilton:
  • Lifetime Diamond status has higher priority than Diamond for upgrades
  • Their IT is good and you can generally even select room in advance
  • Lot of promotions
