Need suggestion between JW Marriott Mussoorie vs Westin Rishikesh

gunnerTH

TF Buzz
Hi everyone, wanted suggestion for 5 nights staycation in Marriot, i am split between JW Marriott Mussoorie vs Westin Rishikesh, Need suggestion from people who have been then which one to book. For me experience is more important then point to redemption value. Will be travelling with my wife and 2 year old kid. Any other Marriot properties suggestion are also fine. Already explored Coorg Marriot and JW Golfshire. Thanks in advance.

JW Mussoorie is a category above Westin Himalayas. If you want extra luxury, go to JW.

Mulberry Shades is also a good property in case you want to consider.

If experience is more important JW is miles ahead of Westin, but thats purely coz of crowd. JW feels secluded.

Playing devil's advocate Westin is worth it with a kid since they have a nice arcade and babysitting facilities and the tours from hotel are priced from 5k - 15k. JW on the other hand is amazing for stay and chill type or if u have a personal vehicle.

If possible try 3 + 2 or 2 +3 in both, as Staying at Mussoorie you can cover surrounding in 2-3 days, not a place to stay beyond.

With Rishikesh, same you can cover in 2-3 days Max.

+ Hire Taxi - will cover everything nearby.

Thanks bro, I was thinking to get a self drive car from Dehradun and explore the region. So we can do what you suggested.

Planning something like, land in dehradun, stay there overnight, next day head to mussoorie for 3 nights, then for 2 nights at Rishikesh and return flight from dehradun.
Should be good, just check in advance if there's no traffic jam in Landour. We wasted a few hours there due to one. Narrow roads and peopel took big SUVs.

JW Mussorie is quite old but food is good and views from the restaurant, lobby are good. Lawns are a nice place to walk around.
Westin is relatively new, lot of other property construction/half constructed buildings in the vicinity, unless you get specific rooms in the top floors, view from balcony is partially obstructed by other buildings. Try to go for room with heated plunge pool. Terrace lawn can be nice for few minutes. Apart from that indoor few arcade games are there (extra payment).
I would just stick to JW Mussorie and go with 5 night redemption (5th night free). But if you feel you will be bored in same property for 5 days, then do 3 nights in JW and 2 in Westin.

Unlike JWM PG, JWM WG is secluded for an apples to apples comparison.

It's a great property.
Elite recognition was fab for me in 2022.
Was there for my wife's birthday.

Since it's cut off from habitation, they try to make you feel at home.

Kempty Falls is built up as a must see.
But keep expectations knee high.
We laughed our lungs out when when got there after much huffing and puffing.
Return trudge will be a challenge with the kid.

Char dukaan, Landour with the famous cake shop etc make for a nice 4-6 hour day trip

But 5 days may be a slight overkill.

3 days may be ideal for you with a kid.

Given where the airport is located, I'd recommend the following
1. Go direct to JWM WG from Jolly Grant
2. 3 Days in JWM WG
3. Day 4 make Dehradun your base (Hyatt Regency there was pretty good)
5. Day 4 or Day 5 do a day trip to Rishikesh (if interested)

Dehradun itself is quite a nice city to explore atleast for a day.
Multiple day trip options too are available.

Made a pal do a similar trip with his wife and two kids in 2023.
I guess he liked it 🙂.

I liked it too, because i got stay nights for his booking !

Helped another pal do something similar with Dehradun as his base.

Alternatively split time between JWM WG and The Westin.

If you are remotely, religiously or spiritually bent, then the area around The Westin may be for you.

PS:
Bear in mind - winding roads, traffic jams, narrow roads and distances...plus the kid angle.

Good luck !

Your experience - summarised it very well...
Places you seen/enjoyed in Dehradun, in your Trip !!

Thanks 🙂

We stayed around a day and a half in Dehradun.
(The Hyatt Regency was tucked away too by DED's standards).
So cant say I saw much !

An evening with a friend in an army club eat up most of the half day.
The day trip to Rishikesh and Haridwar consumed one day.

I know there are places to visit and sights to behold within and outside Dehradun...robbers cave comes to mind.

Waiting to go back for a city darshan for a while now !
