Planning a Malaysia - Singapore trip

Visiting kualalumpur in October. Yet to book flights. Hotel booking is done. Will update once I finalized the itinerary. Stay duration is less than a week.

Yes, whenever you travel with family, everyone doesn't need to have individual cards. Blood relatives can use each other's cards when travelling together. Some lounges will have exceptions, or if it is too crowded, will give access to cardholders only.

I was refused this for my family at Singapore terminal 2 SATS premier lounge in August 2024. I have multiple cards with free international lounge access. They refused saying, only card holder can go. Name should match on Boarding pass and Only one card can be swiped for my name.

Looks like hit or miss...
It used to be always hit in India and hit or miss internationally, now it's hit or miss in India and almost always miss internationally.

I travel international atleast 5-8 times a year and about 2 with family (about 3-4 coubtries with family). Earlier the lounge dragons used to accept my additional PP/Credit card for anyone accompanying me without a question but in the last 2-3 years almost no one does (even in India, its frequently denied now). I hit this problem continuously coz my daughter is 12 and we can't get a card for her.

Thankfully I have Axis Olympus as a saving grace with guest visit permissions. Wherever we can find Amex lounge, we just use Amex platinum as internationally we get 2 guests on Amex platinum charge.

I have a plan to visit next summer (April-May). Was thinking of booking around Feb. But seeing your post wanted to ask - do we need to book this early? are the charges less? Never planned an overseas vacation before so do let me know of any pros and cons

I am visiting during Diwali, so I assumed flight/hotel prices will get higher anytime, so it's better to book in advance.

I have only booked hotel. Flights I will book next month. Activities I will book through Klook. And Grab for taxi.

Hotel prices can always be trailed as long as you are booking directly with the hotel. I book my hotels 11-12 months in advance for the same reason.

Flights can be booked whenever you see a good price.

Thanks for your post. Since I have Plat charge, I suppose that is 1 guest taken care of. Wife has Infinia add on & PP so she is independent. If she gets a Plat Charge add-on, can she take a guest too?

For you, I heard EPM gives add-on card for 12+ year Olds. So perhaps you can consider. I will never get an EPM. Sigh

Plat charge allows a guest only in Amex Centurion Lounges not in PP lounges.

My travels take me to a lot of places which have Amex lounges (unfortunately, neither Singapore or Malaysia has an Amex lounge)
Amex lounge list is here:

I don't need an EPM right now Axis Olympus gives me 10 guest access with PP which is enough for my daughter.

For hotels, it's generally good to book as much in advance as possible (assuming you are booking refundable) and keep checking for rate changes.

Also, if you can book hotel nights as chunks of 1-2 nights each, it's very helpful as you can cancel and rebook any nights that become cheaper and keep nights that go up at your booking price. At checking you can tell the fdc that you have multiple bookings and they will tc of it.

You can get Infinia add on (for your father / mother) with just surname on it and it will work fine for son / daughter ... there is no need to take any other card

Has this been tried at lounges where they compare names on boarding card and Priority Pass / credit card or is this a speculation that if the person has nothing (first name) to check properly, s/he will accept it. Especially while presenting 2 cards with just last name and 2 cards with full name.

Also, even if it works, it's fraudulent as we will be telling the agent that this credit card belongs to the child while it doesn't. I personally won't do this and either pay the lounge charge (if I think lounge is worth it) or just sit outside and at eat at some restaurant.

I actually had a scenario couple of years back when Olympus was still Citi and had no guest access. We were coming back from Male to India (2 of us and my daughter who was 10 then). I had Star Alliance gold so I got lounge access for 2. They declined to let me use my PP for my daughter, we realized it was a little cheaper to buy child lounge access in cash at lounge than buying 3 sandwiches outside and paid for child access in cash.
