Someone opened account in Bank of India with my email ID

Insigia

Hello, first post here - so recently bank of india opened an account with my email id, person name is different though - I have never done any interaction with bank of india, nor opened any account with them. They opened the account with my email id in Gujarat, then also did kyc with that.

This person has somehow gotten access to my email id and using it everywhere, even did a health insurance with HDFC ergo through some policy world portal.

What's the process for me to raise a complaint, first with Bank of India, and also with HDFC ergo to get my email blacklisted from the said account of a random person? Can i claim any compensation with Bank of India, and RBI? Any compensation possible with the insurance regulator?

Would appreciate the help of experts here. Thanks!

KYC is not done using email ID. It is done using Identity and Address Proof Documents
The person is just filling your email id in the 'email id' field on form.

Unfortunately, with the ##### systems we have, there is no OTP validation by Banks for email verification.
You will yourself have to message Bank of India customer care / PNO - and Once and for all tell them - Someone has used your Email id and registered it to their Bank Account. Tell them to deregister that email from Bank ASAP.

same for Hdfc Ergo - you will have to reach out to their Customer care and tell them the same.

Unfortunately de ragistration process could be difficult for you.

One quick question.
I understand that you are receiving those emails. But could you check again full email address in the To field in those emails. Are the characters are exactly same or little difference like having "." etc. that would help you to pin point the problem while asking them to rectify.
