ITR-3 Offline Utility: “The cell or chart you are trying to change is on a protected sheet...” error in 115BAC section

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to file my ITR-3 for AY 2024–25 using the official Excel-based offline utility from the Income Tax Department.

While filling Part A – General Information, under the question:

I’m getting this error irrespective of whether I select “Yes” or “No”:

I haven’t made any changes to the file or formatting. Macros are enabled, and I’ve already tried:

• Re-downloading the utility from the portal
• Opening it in different versions of Excel
• Making sure I’m using it as per guidelines

Still facing the same issue.

Has anyone else encountered this? Any idea how to fix or work around it?

You need to ACTIVATE the MACROS in the Excel.

Is Mircrosoft .net framework installed 3.5 and above version? https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet-framework

Also whether Java is installed on pc. How old is your pc/laptop or which windows version your are using alongwith MS office version?

We have to look for many things before this can actually work.

Windows 10,office 2016,dontnet framework installed

You need to ACTIVATE the MACROS in the Excel.

Did that.no change
