Drsel's advice
1. Ideally Yes Marquee should be used only for online spends and the points earned should be redeemed for Zomato and Swiggy cash vouchers.

2. Ideally Yes Reserve 3x should be used only for online spends and the points earned should be redeemed for flights or hotels.

3. Yes Reserve 5x has the highest return of all Yes Bank cards, provided you have a lot of expenses in hospital bills, doctors fees, diagnostic tests (blood test, x-ray, CT scan, MRI etc.), medicines, travel (including online travel agents), luxury fashion brands.

Ideally Yes Reserve 5x should be used only for online spends in all the above categories, and the points earned should be redeemed for flights/hotels.

4. For all spends, if possible, ask the merchant to send a payment link by SMS, email or WhatsApp, so that you can pay online instead of offline to get the extra 2.25% (Marquee) or extra 1.5%.(Reserv 3x and 5x)

Hi, Why is grocery/supermarkets included in the select categories? Don't see them mentioned as such on the bank's page.

click the link of the card page..

scroll down (wait for few secs, it takes time to load) scroll down..

terms & conditions, point a) or b) will have whole list of selected categories.
Check for yourself, 14 categories mentioned in clause B. 2 initially for cable/utilities, next 3 for insurance, 6 for education, 3 for govt transactions. Clause G has excluded categories, 2 for rental, 1 wallet. No mention of groceries. I have also seen a more comprehensive list circulating around including groceries and even cab services. However, I haven't noticed anything to confirm these categories on any official links.

They changed the list silently.

yes, I thought no changes this month 😀 but we have 2 updates so far..
Yes, its been updated a while back I imagine, because I got my card in Jan end, and this was the list I saw. Only Utilities/Insurance/Education/Govt on select categories, which is what make sense. The old list was batshit crazy, excluding things like supermarkets and cabs makes no sense.

i still cannot get over 6% for online spends vs 4.5%.. strange differentiation by YES..

sounds good and that'll be the stable product than this 3x..
I'm curious why are people running behind Yes Marquee? It's just 4.5% rp rate with so many exclusions. SBI CB card seems like anyday a better card with a no frills 5% cb.

If you compare exclusions of both sbi cb and Yes Marquee, both are similar - only difference being Yes Marquee gives points for jewellery, while SBI CB card doesn't. Rest all exclusions are exactly similar for both the cards. So MS is anyways not possible on either of the two cards - yes marquee or SBI CB.

There are not much other benefits to Yes Marquee as well. Only BMS BOGO is there. Rest even domestic lounges aren't unlimited. No other lifestyle perks.

If anything, SBI cards have far more merchant offers than Yes Bank cards.

Then why are people running behind Yes Marquee? What's so amazing about it, that makes it a better card than SBI CB card? I'm curious to know from people here.

Few points first,

People running behind all bank cards.. some just applying thesse cards because they can, Infact <20% people in the forum itself checking rewards before applying any card (they often ask question, "I applied this card, where to use it?"). And if you observe here comparison not between SBI cards vs YES cards but only within YES cards.

So, if one find ideal use cases with SBI then definitely recommended SBI. YES cards more or like rewards cards and not comparable with cashback cards. Again, I'm not saying you can get variable rate in this bank but it is what it is (4.5% max).

Since, anyway you asked. sample example (note: both cards are 900 fee cards)

On 3L spends in first year =

1.5L spends online
1L spends special
0.5L spends offline

Marquee net return = 3.8%

SBI CB net return = 7500 + 0 + 500 = 2.67%

I agree that
- SBI has more offers than YES

But, YES Marquee is a premium card whereas SBI CB is basic card. The difference usually observed with lifestyle benefits, one who went for Infinia not looking for cashback because that provides only 1% return whereas SBI CB gives 5%, it all about other benefits these cards provides.

Movies - 36 free tickets on BMS (thats 50% extra discount SBI CB not provide on BMS)
Domestic - Agree.. not unlimited but it gives 32 lounges in a year for domestic, I belive that is enough to be considered as unlimited.
International - Unlimited
Forex - 1.18% vs SBI CB 4.13% (beneficial for those who transact international purchases)

There is no denying that if one can spend upto 1L only on online shopping then SBI CB, undoubtly the best - it gives 5%.

But, consider that some people spend more than 1L in a month (as mentioned earlier their lifestyle need stepup), and some spends offline, special categories.. then SBI CB not upto the point.

Finally, I'm not saying this is the best card available now but do not compare cashback card with rewards card or with lifestyle card. Cashbacks are basic cards easily available for many whereas premium cards those who want to take further step.

That's not how you compare cards. The main moot of both cards is for online spending only, so don't compare it for offline spending and special MCC spending. Most people will have other cards to better optimise for other spending already. Also premium cards are just a perception and a marketing jargon, so don't go by their marketing that if something is a premium card then it has to be good. Compare more objectively.

The real gap that SBI CB/Yes Marquee/Yes Reserv really fills in is for the non accelerated spending (for which GV doesn't exist on Gyftr). And the apples-to apples comparison competitor to these cards should be Axis Atlas. Atlas still finds value for offline spending - will continue to give 4%. So only and only for online non accelerated spending, I was thinking is there still a usecase of Yes Marquee being better than SBI CB? The only thing really is the caps, SBI CB would give CB only upto 1L spends. Yes Marquee/Reserv have a higher cap. So upto 1L "non accelerated online spends", is it no brainer that SBI CB more than trumps Marquee/Reserv? And only if someone consistently has >1L non accelerated online spends, only then Marquee/Reserv would make sense?

Btw - Mind you, 1L is already quite high just for non accelerated online spends (given that most often abused MCC are excluded already, and that's a really good step from Yes Bank as well). Most people who have high spends would be having large chunk of them on amazon etc where GVs exist already, and Yes bank cards would be way suboptimal over there.

For fx spends I agree, Marquee definitely is a very good option and outweighs SBI CB anyday. But for me, fx spends aren't a majority of my expenses each month.
