Which card is good now for rent payments

I've got 50k rent to be paid monthly, earlier I was using magnus+PayZapp to get milestone benefits but now as PayZapp is fixed hence I would not get those benefits plus axis will collect GST for rent payment.

What is the alternative, any trick for magnus or any other suggested card to get at least some benefits out of the payment.

I have axis flipkart, ICICI apay, amex mrcc, Axis magnus, HDFC Tata neo infinity and a few others.

This is wrong!

Both kotak and indusind now have a rent surcharge fees on rent payment of 1% + GST (starting from feb 23 and apr 23 respectively).
I can share screenshots if you want to prove that neither have charged me 1 paisa surcharge till date. I do 2-3 rental transactions on an average every month on both Kotak & IndusInd (legit transactions FYI). I monitor my available balance before and after every transaction, & NO surcharge while using CRED, PAYTM, to make rental payments !! Also, I got points on these transactions.

I know the the T&C for some weird reason says there is a surcharge on rental payments but they have not actually charged it.

Lol. Idk what's the scenario in your case but their T&C explicitly state otherwise and they can definitely charge it anytime (even cumulatively for all rent payments done till now - risk it if you want :))
Btw, your statement reminded me of this meme :ROFLMAO: :

How is it ₹300 for 10K? Considering ~0.46% RG charges and 1st HDFC cc rent payment per month free of surcharge, it would only come out to ₹46 for 10K.

  • ₹690 for 150K -> ₹1500 voucher (possible each quarter). Profit = ₹810
  • ₹2300 for 500K -> ₹5000 flight voucher + ₹1500 x 3 vouchers (considering spends spread over 3 different quarters) = ₹9500. Profit = ₹7200
  • ₹3450 for 750K -> ₹5000 x 2 flight voucher + ₹1500 x 4 vouchers (considering spends spread over 4 different quarters) = ₹16000. Profit = ₹12550

Seems worth it to me...obviously if you have that high of a rent and if those vouchers are useful to you.
Well, I think you are referring to the Regalia Gold card with the reward structure and not the Regalia card. Because I have Regalia and it doesn't give any voucher based milestone benefits. Just 10k points for spending 5L and additional 5k points for spending 8L.

if the maths works out for you then great for you. I personally don't like the intense documentation and painful process of updating details in case of an address change at RG. Sure they charge the lowest but the overall hassle is painstaking to say the least.

And, as you say, those vouchers should actually be of any use else all of this hoolahooping comes to nought.

LMAO reading your post ! :LOL:

However on a serious note, lol, I Will explain what the scenario is, since you did NOT bother bother reading it throughly :

IndusInd : Only some of the IndusInd cards are charged 1% rent surcharge NOT all, please read the t&c properly. Most HNI cards INCLUDING Indulge, Celesta, Crest & even Club Vistara Explorer etc are excluded, so I guess the risk was taken was only because it was "Risk-free". ;)
WHAT WORKED IN MY COMPUTER WILL WORK IN EVERYONE ELSE'S, AFTER ALL WE ARE ALL CONNECTED VIA THE SAME STUFF ,CALLED "INTERNET", "Pun Intended" :ROFLMAO:

Again, on a serious note I wish you had read the entire t&c throughly, would have saved me writing this post !

Kotak : Though they did make an announcement that 1% surcharge will be levied for rent payments, neither there is any available t&c on their website till date (Feel free to share when & if you find one on Kotak's website :)) nor have Kotak sent out any specific communication in that regard, at least to my registered email or mobile. So, unless specific communications are sent out along with t&c to registered communication addresses or are available on the bank website, banks cannot levy charges at their whim, at the least that would be malpractice & that is why we have the RBI ombudsman. :)

Also, banks levy transaction specific charges e.g. Forex mark-ups, rental / wallet surcharge at the time of the transaction or right after post settlement of that transaction, not after months or years post settlement !!!! I confirmed the same with Kotak customer care too.....

Believe me - it's the exact other way around as I will point out below.
But definitely I LMAO'ed

hard reading your post and on your ignorance...

"However on a serious note, lol"

, I will get to the point -

Never said it applies to all indusind card :). It applies to most of them in general with some exceptions (as it normally is in most cases).

Again, on a serious note I wish you had read the entire t&c throughly, would have saved me writing this post !
LOL!! Infact it's the exact opposite. I did read and know about exceptions which is why I explicitly linked the t&c for anyone to read instead of making false blank statements like - "Kotak & IndusInd. No surcharge + ..."

. Would have saved me writing me these comments :)

LOL!! - https://www.kotak.com/content/dam/Kotak/files/english-rcas.pdf. Search "rent payments" (you can do it by ctrl + F if you didn't know 🙃). Now paraphrasing again (sorry couldn't resist again:LOL:): I wish you had read the entire t&c throughly, would have saved me writing this post !

I would assume banks are free to levy charges if their customers are foolish to not read t&c and assume random things despite multiple sources and even their t&c explicitly stating otherwise? LOLMAO :)

Probably...although I haven't read any t&c stating the transaction charges would be applied right post transaction nor any RBI guidelines stating they have to be 🤷‍♂️. Also most customer care are dumb - they will say 10 different things when you call them 10 times. Please point me to the written t&c/guidelines from bank/RBI, if there does exists one :).

And again, as I said - probably. Maybe you got away with surcharge not being applied right after transaction for whatever reason & probably surcharge won't apply on those past transaction...maybe. Whether the bank decides to apply it cumulatively at some point (maybe end of quarter/year) depends entirely on them since their t&c explicitly states so (unless ofc there exists a guideline against it which as I said, do point me to if there exists one :))

Can you please elaborate on this? I have a DCB but had stopped paying rent when I read that rent payments are not counting for rewards and milestones.
1. Add your rent agreement to redgiraffe. That should give you redgiraffe id used for payment. (0.39% charges)

2. In hdfc net banking, go to "Bill Payment & Recharge" tab at the top and add the redgiraffe id in rent payments.

You can also set smartpay for autodebit from your creditcard.

It's shows up as billpay in your credit card statement and you get points for it.

Edit: this has since been patched.

This is very useful!! with the change in MCC on Payzapp since last 2 months haven't been getting any RPs using DCB for my genuine rent payment. This is a true saver!! Appreciate your kind help. Cheers. Thanks

Hi, I have set up all this in RedGirraffe and made a few rent payments using Infinia and got points because it got tagged as insurance. But, is this still valid? Does Infinia still give points for paying rent via RedGirraffe (Payzapp or netbanking?) I did not get points a couple of times when I paid via RG

I am paying 80K + rent to my parent in order to save tax. Which is the best card + portal combo for this? I am currently using Cred + SBI Air India Signature. I guess the costs are now 2% + GST + Rs. 99. Still worthwhile, due to the generous reward rate of SBI Air India. But where can I get a better rate/lower cost without subterfuge?
I had a bad experience with NoBroker earlier, and last I checked, Housing.com was offering higher rates. Cred also gives complimentary one month home insurance.
As posted on another thread, I tried using redgiraffe, but they insisted on a 'registered' agreement. Any idea how much needs to be paid to register an agreement in Rajasthan?
Anyway, my contribution to this thread is that SBI Air India Signature/ ABI Vistata Prime are decent cards to do rent payment.

Update: Mobikwik is charging the same (2.36%). Paytm seems to be charging 1.8% incl of GST? Is there any reliable provider doing below paytm, or is there a way I can use Redgiraffe without registering the agreement?

I have the same question. Does paying via Smartpay for redgiraffe or via Payzaap using infinia gets classified as Rent and are reward points credited?

Since the patch in Payzaap, paying rent via it does not result in reward points credit. However, i have been using HDFC billpay over the last few months and have been getting reward points for such transactions.

I pay my rent using Regalia through Redgiraffe + HDFC Billpay. It gives me an effective return of 0.84% as points (1.3% for Regalia minus Redgiraffe charges). I then load money to Paytm wallet using HDFC Millenia DC and get 1% cashback (Platinum DC works too) for bill payment of Regalia. Total effective return becomes 1.84%.

Is regallia giving rewards on Rent payment? I'm having millenia, any idea of rent rewards on it?

In hdfc first rent payment for the calendar month is free. From the second rent payment onwards only they charge 1% right? This condition is per card or two hdfc cards combined?
