RBI has recently introduced the
Digital Rupee, a central bank digital currency (CBDC) that offers a user experience similar to UPI apps. However, there's a key distinction in how transactions are recorded. Transactions made using the Digital Rupee are
only reflected in the Digital Rupee passbook within the respective bank’s app, and
not in the regular bank account statement. The only entry that appears in your bank statement is the
amount you load into the Digital Rupee wallet.
I’ve registered and started using the
SBI Digital Rupee app, and after making a few small transactions, I noticed that
these did not appear in my main bank statement. Instead, they were recorded exclusively in the
Digital Rupee section of the app. Only the wallet loading transaction was visible in my account statement.
This seems like a thoughtful initiative by the RBI — it helps
declutter bank statements by reducing the number of entries, making them
cleaner and easier to review, especially for users who frequently make digital payments.
Please find below the screenshots of the bank account statement and the related SMS notifications for Digital Rupee transactions. (Note: The app’s passbook does not allow screenshots, so SMS messages have been shared as a reference.)
So Start using the Digital Rupee app and experience the future of digital payments!
